The Tacoma area was inhabited predominantly by the Puyallup Native Americans for thousands of years. It wasn't until the mid-1800s that European settlers first came to the area. A Swedish man named Nicolas Delin built a sawmill near the head of Commencement Bay in 1852. Later, in 1864, Civil War veteran Job Carr built a cab, which would later serve as the area's first post office. The city was first incorporated on November 12, 1875. Today, Tacoma is a thriving city and is known as the "City of Destiny."

There is always an adventure waiting for you whenever you visit Tacoma. No matter what you love to do, there is something to excite you waiting in the city. Here are some of the top local attractions.
  • Point Defiance Park. This scenic park covers more than 700 acres of waterfront views, gardens, a zoo, an aquarium, and miles of woodland trails.
  • America's Car Museum. If you love cars as much as we do, you have to visit this museum. You can see some of the most beloved and unique car models from the past 100+ years of automotive history.
  • Chihuly Bridge of Glass. This spectacular bridge spans I-705 and on a sunny day shows off a brilliant display of color from the fantastic glass artwork created by Dale Chihuly. The bridge is free and open to the public.
